Grant for Generator Received
 from Lyon County
Riverboat Foundation
The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation awarded the Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities a grant in the amount of $75,334 for a generator that was installed on the west side of the Forster Community Building. The grant paid for 66.7% of the generator, with RRMU paying the remaining balance.

The need for this generator was demonstrated by the 2013 Ice Storm and the 2014 historic flooding of the Rock River when areas of Rock Rapids and Lyon County were without electricity, leaving some residents struggling to find a warm and safe place to stay.

Meyer Electric installed the generator, resulting in a community that can better respond to any type of disaster. The generator will provide continuous power to the Community Building, Library and Fire Station, allowing these 3 buildings to maintain electricity even if the rest of the town goes dark. The buildings can be used as emergency shelters for displaced Lyon County residents.

Rock Rapids Municipal Utilities gratefully acknowledges receipt from Lyon County Riverboat Foundation of this generous contribution that will help provide emergency shelter for the citizens of Rock Rapids and Lyon County in the event of a widespread power outage anywhere in the County.
Premier Communications is installing new fiber optic lines around town. The yellow line on the map above shows where they will be working during the next several weeks.
